Sorry, I keep on posting non-art related problems here. orz But I probably will get the fastest and most responses and hopefully helpful solutions---one of the advantages of being watched by so many people. (Please don't slap me, I'll upload lots of stuff later promise ;___; )
So anyway, I've been having this problem for a while, the fact that when my laptop's using wireless connection I cannot stay on any online games for more than 5 minutes before getting disconnected. Really wasn't that big of a deal before since I was using a direct plug-in modem last year in my apartment, but starting from June, I'll be moving into a new place where I'll be living with 2-3 other people, and would be using a single DSL connection with my laptop connected via wireless connection. While I can browse the internet fine, online games would be out of question, unless this problem can be somehow resolved. I've googled around, but it seems a lot of people were just having lags instead of being completely disconnected. :[ I mean, lag's bad...but at least I can still play the game, but with this... >_>
So...anyone knows how to solve this problem (asides from 1. get a new computer and 2. get a direct plug in)? ;____; I really don't want to force quit ether saga because of this, now that I've finally found some game that I love...

thats why you have no problem with browing the internet is because it takes into account those fluxuations and just takes longer to load the website. but with games they are so senitive that any lose in connection it will disconect you
sorry to say hard wire is going to be the only way.

I'll see if I can ask my roommate to get a direct plug-in...(but then again, it would be a really awkward reason, because I want to play some games... ._.;;; )

Thanks for the info though! It explains a great deal about this "unsolved mystery" thing. XD

I was playing another online game a while ago on my dad's desktop that's also using wireless, and it worked fine. @_@

I had the same problem with my desktop wireless connection just a month ago, that I can't even connect to any online MMOs (not that I play anyway, i connect to them to test connection strength) and i was having the internal wireless adaptor (the one with the antennae). It also disconnects me every 15 minutes or less (lol). I switched to a USB type of wireless adaptor and now I stay connected 24/7.
Which I can say that there might be either of these would be the problem:
1) your wireless adaptor is in a lower version (gb/B instead os G)
Solution: Upgrade
2) your wireless connection is fast enough for browsing but slow enough for MMOs, and can't take the bandwidth load MMOs take.
Solution: call ISP provider
3) Since Wireless internet is a shared connection (unless you have a private one) it usually shares IP addresses with who ever connects to it. Eg. there are 4 computers in my house. we can't play a certain MMO all the same time-- else we get DC'd. this is due to IP address conflict
Solution: set a different IP address for your computer, manually. Or generate a MAC clone IP
I dunno if that would help so much, but that's usually the problem with our networking. I hope it helps

it might be your wireless card is starting to give out and that is why as of late it is disconnecting more.
lag on online games are caused by the server almost 90% of the time. the rest of the lag is not by the internet connection but by the hardwear you have in your computer. mainly processor, video card and ram. the lag where the whole screen seems to lock up and your char moves only a little bit at a time is because your graphics card is trying to load the graphics but there is to much and it can't handle it.
the lag you get when you click and nothing resonds is called server lag and the server is unabled to load and handle the number of people in that area or on the server it's self.
