I might want a new laptop...

In the near future. I love my current laptop, but it's been running slower and slower (doesn't help when I'm playing online games on it either) and getting hotter and hotter really fast. ;3;

what I really want is a Mac, but I don't have nearly enough funds to get one. I'm wondering if it's really worth the extra 500+ dollars for a Mac than a Sony PC? (My current laptop is a sony, so I'm basing my standards on what I've been using since I had no problem with it for all these years) I can get a sony for ~700 dollars with 3GB RAM and a Mac for ~1000 for only 2GB RAM and several inches less screen size (for me, bigger screen's better so I don't have to stick my face too much near the screen when I'm drawing)...of course, I haven't looked at anything else.

If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know? Even if it's on laptop computers in general...and Vista, since I can't find any new computers still equipped with XP these days. >_>;

i prefer PC coz of compatibility issues. Pluse, Mac parts and progs are hard to find here-- and that they're more expensive.

I've used Mac at college and though if they say that it crashes less than a PC, i think it's not really worth the extra money for paying.

besides, it's harder to find Mac compatible programs to pirate... :slow:

if you could tell me the exact problems you're having with your current laptop, I could probably help you fix it so it goes faster and doesnt heat up so fast and so you dont have to spend money on a new laptop. If you want to get the new laptop though, go with a Sony. Its cheaper and will probably last longer than a Mac. (I have no confidence in them....) Hope this helps.

The heating thing might just be an issue with the fan that can probably be fixed. Have you talked to a tech person about it? (Just call/stop by Best Buy or Circuit City or that type of store if your computer's makers won't help you).

'cause if your current laptop can be fixed for less than what an entirely new laptop would cost, I really don't see why you wouldn't just do that XD;

Macs are way too expensive. I definitely would get a HP or a sony.

[The heating thing might also depend on where you're using your laptop... If you have it on a surface where it can't circulate air easily, ie on your lap or somewhere else where there's something pushing against the openings for the fans, then it'll get pretty hot pretty fast.]

I'd say go for PC rather than Mac. Better specs, better screen, lower price.

Sony isn't typically the best computer brand though. I think Toshiba is decent. Dell is also pretty good (although customer support isn't that great) and you can customize a lot too.

Windows 7 is also coming out soon, so you might want to look for that instead of Vista (since it supposedly solves a lot of Vista's problems)

I think Acer still has some XP laptops but they're going away pretty fast. Do you leave your laptop on a bed? Because it needs to have room to breathe or it won't last as long. If you get a Mac, than you can connect a LCD monitor to it. I do that with mine whenever my family aren't home.
If I were you, I'll go with the Sony one since you said that you played online games and because it's easier to find programs that work with Vista/XP.

ohhh, so that might be the reason why it gets really hot these days, since I have to leave it on bed since there's no desks in my dorm. >>;

I just heard Macs are better used for graphics stuff...don't know much about it.

oh gawd. >_>;; I don't mind any system, so long as the programs I need work in there. -.-; Already afraid that some of the programs won't work in Vista...no idea what's gonna happen when 7 comes out. (why 7? o_- )

lol someone mentioned how Sony computers have the longest life span...
